Lofgren: Springsteen Can't Surprise Us

As the Bruce Springsteen express continues to tear its way trough arenas in the US, the story of the latest tour by Bruce and the E Street Band has been the number of cover versions appearing in the sets.

In an interview with Billboard guitarist Nils Lofgren says that the number of covers and “audibles” (unrehearsed song requests) thrown at the band by Bruce has been surprising but actually managing to play them has been straight forward.

“We all learned how to play in cover bands and cut our teeth on an incredible wealth of catalogs like Motown, Stax Volt, the British Invasion, blues...We're a hard group to stump,” he says. And while he admits in the interview that he sometimes turns up early to rehearse "you never know what's coming."

So far the tour has seen versions of The Ramones’ ‘I Wanna Be Sedated,’ the Who's ‘My Generation,’ the Rascals' ‘Good Lovin',’ the Kingsmen's ‘Louie Louie,’ the Soul Survivors' ‘Expressway to Your Heart,’ The Clash’s ‘London’s Calling’, Willie Dixon's ‘Seventh Son,’ and the Mysterians' ‘96 Tears.’

Pearl Jam Bassist Injured In Attack

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament was the victim of a violent attack during a robbery outside Southern Track recording studios in Atlanta.

Rolling Stone reports that Ament lost of over $4,320 worth of goods and $3,000 in cash when robbers smashed the windows of a rented jeep and grabbed a Blackberry before demanding more money.

The bassist was apparently chased and knocked to the ground, sustaining a head injury. The robbers, who stole Ament’s passport, then disappeared in a waiting black Nissan Maxima.

The incident was captured on CCTV but no arrests have so far been made.
