The Who star at Glastonbury mudbath
GLASTONBURY (Reuters) - Rock godfathers The Who headline at Glastonbury on Sunday with persistent rain turning the rural English meadows which host the world's biggest greenfield music and arts festival into a high-spirited mudbath.
Baba O'Riley
Tractors spread straw and woodchips as paths became harder to negotiate, but music-inspired festival-goers in brightly coloured ponchos and rubber wellington boots danced, frolicked and played undaunted.
"It's gone very well in spite of the rain, in spite of the mud," upbeat festival founder Michael Eavis said on Sunday.
"Believe it or not the drains have actually worked ... the show compensates for the weather ... the sun's not everything."
Other big acts on the third and final day of Glastonbury include British music sensation the Kaiser Chiefs, angsty rockers Manic Street Preachers, Californian indie band Cold War Kids, Arkansas' The Gossip, and Welsh diva Shirley Bassey.
Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot
More than 1,200 of the record 177,500 attendees had been injured by Sunday, mostly with sprains and bruises from slipping in the mud at Eavis's farm in southwest England set up in the 1970s as a musical hippy haven.
Police said one 26-year-old man had died from a suspected drugs overdose and that despite far more people on site than last year there were fewer arrests and these were mostly drug related. Only 31 thefts were reported.
Downpours were forecast for the rest of the festival but organisers said the flooding would have been much worse without the new 100,000 pound ($199,000) drainage system and other precautions installed by 71-year-old Eavis.
"I was completely unprepared for the Glastonbury experience," said Norwegian singer Lawra Somby, with the group Adjagas, who had to walk barefoot through the mud because he had the wrong shoes before he togged up with boots and raincoat.
Many people were fretting about how they would exit the rural muddy site on Monday.
KILLERS' PYROTECHNICS
American indie rock kings The Killers rounded off the second day of the festival on Saturday night with a storming 1-1/2 hour-long set that left the main stage audience cheering for more.
Against a pyrotechnic display The Killers played some of their biggest hits, like "All These Things That I've Done" and "Smile Like You Mean It".
Bad boy rocker Pete Doherty and his band Babyshambles, dressed as 1930s gangsters, played a popular set, with Doherty's partner supermodel Kate Moss joining in on backing vocals.
Dirty Pretty Things, featuring Doherty's former Libertines band mate Carl Barat, made their debut Glastonbury performance to riotous applause, singing tracks including "Gin and Milk".
Barat squashed this year's Glastonbury rumour that the Libertines would reunite for the festival. "I'd love to play with Pete one day," he said.
As The Killers played their set, music legend Iggy Pop and the Stooges played on the Other Stage. Iggy, in a trademark wild gesture, invited a fan on stage. Once one fan was on stage the floodgates opened and Iggy was soon swamped by up to 400 fans.
Paul Williams, a security guard at the event said: "Iggy broke the rules big time." Fans were removed from the stage by a combination of the security team and Iggy pleading with the fans to "calm it down".
During the stage invasion, Ron Asheton's Fender guitar was stolen and one man was arrested for indecent exposure.

Online gaming, Evolution Day and project E-play - how it will work from a network marketing perspective
The online gaming market is HUGE. Marketing reports talk in millions of people and billions of dollars.
Online gaming is to South Korea what reality TV is to the United States: Huge.
Online gaming is by no means a fad, but a burgeoning business that has been embraced by the next generation of computer game consoles, remains a mainstay of PC and Mac gaming and is broadening its appeal to older generations as well as capturing the younger population.
Online gaming is predicted to be $7 billion by 2008.
Social networking sites are amongst the top visited sites on the Internet.
Social Networking is all about building trustworthy and everlasting relationships and as such, pretty much like in real life,
Forrester Research’s Vice President and Principal Analyst Charlene Li believe that social networking is becoming so important that it is like air, it is everywhere.
If you think the explosion of social networking is relegated to the high school and college crowd, you might be surprised at the results of a recent survey on online social networking.
Any way you slice it social networking is white hot – leveraging the very fabric of an increasingly digital society to thrive and grow exponentially.

Stones to end festival with 'bang'
(Friday June 08, 2007)
More than 30,000 music fans will be heading to the Isle of Wight this weekend to see the Rolling Stones headline their first UK festival appearance in more than 30 years.
This year's event is the sixth since the festival was relaunched 30 years after its heyday when it attracted up to one million hippies to the island.
The Isle of Wight festivals at the end of the 1960s were a series of legendary events featuring Bob Dylan, The Who, Free, The Doors, Joni Mitchell and Jefferson Airplane, culminating in 1970 with 600,000 hippies descending on the island to see Jimi Hendrix perform his penultimate concert.

Since re-starting the festival, world-renowned acts such as Coldplay, The Who, David Bowie, Robert Plant, Lou Reed, Foo Fighters and REM have played.
John Giddings, of festival organisers Solo, said: "We would never have attempted to restart the festival without having such a strong history - the Isle of Wight was the Woodstock of Europe.
"I saw Jimi Hendrix there, and was proud to be offered the chance to contribute to the island's musical heritage. The unique location brings out the best in artists; it relaxes them and contributes to some stunning performances.

The Rolling Stones, whose last UK festival was Knebworth Fair in 1976, kicked off their European tour in Belgium this week with a 30-mile traffic jam of fans queueing to see them in the town of Werchter.
But the critics and 33,000 fans were wowed by the old-timers' "A Bigger Bang" tour which will feature 30 gigs across Europe including performances in Belgrade, Serbia, and in St Petersburg, Russia, which the band has never visited before.
In addition to making stops in Eastern Europe, the band will play in Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and Scandinavia.
The Stones' previous tour became the highest-grossing in concert history in November 2006, netting the band more than £50 million last year and putting them at the top of Forbes' annual list of music's biggest earners.

Download announces more bands
by: Marco Gandolfi
Preparing for a weekend of exceptional music and entertainment, Download Festival announces five more incredible bands to the line-up. Having only announced one third of the line up so far, the first festival of the year looks set to be a phenomenal weekend of live music.
Festival organisers are excited to announce the inclusion of Within Temptation, Stone Sour, Unearth, Chimaira and Job For A Cowboy to the bill. Taking place on 8, 9, 10 June, Download Festival have already announced My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden as this year’s headliners, and as always are striving to improve the Donington Park facilities year on year. Festival organisers are currently looking not only to have more entertainment on site than ever, but are also aiming to implement new initiatives to make the festival greener.
Within Temptation are Holland’s biggest selling musical export, and one of the fastest growing rock acts internationally. Seen as Europe’s hottest new superstars, they have sold over one million units worldwide. Their fourth album, 'The Heart Of Everything’ has been met with critical and commercial praise, and 2007 looks set to be their most successful year yet. Headed up by the beautiful Sharon Den Adel, their combination of her stunning vocals, and the bands masterful musicianship make this six piece ensemble a Download Festival must see.
Sharon Den Adel, singer of Within Temptation says: 'Playing at Download is one of the most exciting things for us this year! We really enjoyed ourselves last year so when we got asked again, we didn’t hesitate to say yes! We look forward to play some songs off of our new album that’s out and we can’t wait to see all those other cool bands as well!'
American melodic rock band Stone Sour were founded by Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Their double Grammy nominated debut album 'Cellar Falls’ went Gold in the US, while their second album 'Come What(Ever) May’ peaked at number 4 in the US Billboard Chart. Having recently sold out their UK tour, this will be the third time that Stone Sour have played Download Festival.
Josh Rand of Stone Sour announces, 'My lords, ladies, and gentleman it is our privilege to be returning to Download this year. Growing up I always heard about this crazy festival that takes place in England. And in 2003, I finally got to experience it first hand - it was a truly amazing event. This year will be no different. With acts like Mötley Crüe, Korn, and Iron Maiden I’m getting excited just talking about it! So with that said, I’ll see you there or you can go take a piss,'
Unearth’s musicianship is legendarily complex, harmonized guitar riffs, harmony oriented bass riffs, and rapid kicks make a sound that can only be Unearth. This unique approach makes them one of the most abrasive, commanding and emotionally charged groups in music today. 2007 is their second appearance at Download.
Unearth’s Trevor Phipps can’t wait 'One of our favorite live experiences to date is our appearance at the 2005 Download Festival. Needless to say, we are beyond stoked to make a return trip this June'
Florida’s sextet Chimaira combine old-school styling’s with undoubted flair, it’s easy to see why they have fans across the globe. The band's sound is uniquely their own, yet it pays homage to those who have influenced them most. Drawing inspiration from an array of musical genres, Chimaira are an adrenaline rush to watch. This is their third Download appearance, and it will be mind blowing.
Chimaira front man Mark Hunter enthused 'Its an honor to be invited back to Download again. This is number three for us and to think just a few years ago we were the first band on the bill... my oh my, have things changed! We plan on making this year go down in history!'
Job For A Cowboy’s first album 'Doom’ was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. The bands underground success soon caught the eye of the larger labels, and they were soon signed to the legendary Metal Blade Records. Seen by many as one of the most talented bands in the US underground music scene, they are currently touring the US and Europe. They’re highly anticipated second album 'Genesis’ is release in May of this year.
Job For A Cowboy guitarist Ravi Bhadriraju said "It is an honor to be invited to such a well renowned festival. Download is one of the biggest festivals and it is awesome that we get to be a part of it this year. We're stoked to tear the stage up!"
