Who's in the Dave Grohl supergroup

The name of a supergroup featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones has been confirmed.

Them Crooked Vultures comprises the frontmen of Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age alongside Led Zeppelin's bass player.

News of their formation was recently revealed and the trio are expected to make their live debut with a concert at Chicago's Metro venue on Sunday.

Blonde Jovi or pretty boy Jon Bon Jovi

Although I was wondering if this was a late April Fool’s joke when I first read it, apparently this story isn’t one that someone made up to honor that tradition.

As reported by Australian music site Undercover, an all-female tribute band has found themselves in the crosshairs of Bon Jovi's crack legal team. Never having been a rock star myself, I have know way to know if this is something that the group’s legal eagles do as part of their normal duties without making anyone in the group aware of it or not. That seems unlikely, but I’m no lawyer and have never even been friends with one!

One thing is for sure, however, if they were not aware of it before, they are now.

Who would want to pick on these ladies?

One would presume that it is well within the group’s power to put a stop to foolishness like this. You know, ring up the suits at “Blakely Sokoloff Taylor And Zafman” and tell them to back off.

As others around the net have pointed out, the tribute band calling itself “Blonde Jovi” (nice play on words, by the way) are obviously fans of the original group. Heck, they probably all had crushes on pretty boy Jon Bon Jovi at one time or another during their lives. And after viewing their site on MySpace, I’d have to say that having some of these ladies pining for you would not be a bad thing!

Speaking of their MySpace page, it appears that the ladies may have caved to the demands made of them by Bon Jovi’s lawyers. Although I reached their page at this URL: http://www.myspace.com/blondejovi, there are now signs that the group is calling itself “Blonde Jersey.” Reading further, I was able to confirm that they have indeed changed their name as a result of the legal action that was being threatened.

How pathetic is that?

I’m seated firmly on the bandwagon with Undercover on this one, and will echo their sentiment that this is indeed a new low for Bon Jovi if they allow something like this to remain final. This whole thing should be called off and they should tell the ladies that they can resume the use of their original name.

This whole thing would be understandable if these ladies were out there performing for big crowds at major venues and making records, but it’s a local tribute band who are probably working their butts off playing clubs and other small venues just trying to make a living, and honoring Bon Jovi at the same time!

You don’t see the guys from Led Zeppelin sending their legal attack dogs after Lez Zeppelin, do you? And that name even more closely matches the original. Heck, I’ve even seen Lez Zeppelin ringtones for sale on some of the major ringtone websites. Apparently, Plant, Page and Jones are sensible enough to appreciate the sentiment.

Gee, I hope the ladies don’t have to worry about the state of New Jersey coming after them now that they are calling themselves “Blonde Jersey” until they come up with something they like better. Perhaps they could borrow a page from Prince’s handbook and call themselves “The Artists Formerly Known As Blonde Jovi,” but I suppose that wouldn’t keep the lawyers off their backs since it still contains the sacred word “Jovi.”

At the risk of being redundant, which in this case I feel is warranted: How pathetic.

U2 to buy London studio?

U2 are reportedly set to buy the legendary London studio where they recorded the final sessions for their new album No Line On The Horizon
.

The band began recording the new LP in February, working out of their own studio in Dublin with stints in both the south of France and New York.

The band wrapped up the album by spending several weeks in London's Olympic Studios, which was recently put on the market by record label EMI.

The building is part of rock history with artists including Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones all recording hits there.

And now U2 are said to be preparing to put an offer in for the studio, to give them a base while they are in the UK and to save the venue from developers.

A source tells The Sun, "They knuckled down and really responded well to the place’s atmosphere. They already have their own studios in Dublin but feel that Olympic could be a very wise investment.

“They’re totting up some figures at the moment. If the maths works out there’s every chance they’ll put an offer in.”

Plans for Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to hit the road as Led Zeppelin in 2009 have been scrapped - because the rockers can't find a singer to replace Robert Plant.

Just a day after Peter Mensch, a spokesman for Page's management firm, defended the rock duo's plans to tour without their famous frontman, he is now attempting to end the speculation about a semi-reunion by telling Music Radar Led Zeppelin is "completely over”.

Mensch says, "Led Zeppelin are over! If you didn’t see them in 2007, you missed them. It’s done. I can’t be any clearer than that... There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it.”

Page and Jones were hoping to follow up a reunion show they performed in London at the end of 2007 with new shows, but Plant, who has since found success with musical partner Alison Krauss, had no interest in touring with his former bandmates.

And, despite reports Alter Bridge star Myles Kennedy had been drafted in to replace Plant, Mensch insists all reunion plans have been scrapped.

He reveals the band auditioned singers but "no one worked out”.

Led Zeppelin will tour without Robert Plant, Jimmy Page's manager has revealed.

The rock legends have been at the centre of constant press speculation in recent months, after their celebrated one-off comeback at the O2 Arena in 2007.

It has now been confirmed that Page, John Paul Johns and Jason Bonham are prepared to go out on the road without their founding singer.

Peter Mensch said the band were ready for the "long and difficult process" of finding a new frontman.

"Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16 years old", he told the BBC.

"Jimmy Page likes being a musician. That's what he does! He doesn't want to be a race car driver or a solicitor.

"John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page enjoy playing with each other, Jason Bonham is a really good drummer so why not? We just need to find a singer", said Mensch.
